Canonical e ARM insieme per portare Ubuntu su processori ARM

Recente la notizia della patnership tra , sponsor commerciale di , e , che da anni domina il mercato dei processori embedded per dispositivi mobili. L’obiettivo sarà quello di far nasce “ ”, una distro fortemente orientata alla tecnologia dei processori .

ha annunciato oggi che porterà l’intero sistema operativo per il ARMv7. Il nuovo sistema operativo permetterà di avere altissime prestazioni sfruttando la tecnologia a basso consumo di , su tecnologia SoCs, a tutto vantaggio della durata della batteria. La prima versione Ufficiale sara disponibile da Aprile 2009.

Non è la prima volta che stringe rapporti di collaborazioni, questo fà capire la maturità e la volontà di spingere su qualsiasi dispositivo.

CAMBRIDGE, UK – Nov. 13, 2008 [(LSE: ); (Nasdaq: ARMH)] and Ltd, the commercial sponsor of , today announced that they will bring the full ® operating system to the ARMv7 processor architecture to address demand from device manufacturers. The addition of the new operating system will enable new netbooks and hybrid computers, targeting energy-efficient ® technology-based SoCs, to deliver a rich, always-connected, computing experience, without compromising battery life.

The combination of a commercially supported, optimized distribution for , together with ’s ability to tailor solutions to specific technology-based devices and OEM requirements, ensures that highly-optimized systems can be rapidly deployed into the fast growing computing market. ’s wide partnership with leading semiconductor and device manufacturers strengthens the computing software ecosystem and extends the market reach for -based products.

The distribution for desktops and netbooks will be officially available from April 2009 through standard distribution channels.
